The Workplace Shift

The Covid-19 pandemic created workplace shifts in almost every sector.

The Covid-19 pandemic forced the world to adjust to a new normal — both personally and professionally. Businesses closed their doors, adjusted the way they operated, and many started to work remotely. While those who could work from home adjusted, millions lost their jobs. Some of the jobs lost may never return, and other positions may become automated. The pandemic has caused massive changes in the way we work and the job market. Many companies are slowly returning to work in the office in a type of hybrid system of working remote and in office.  Because of all this, workplaces are developing and establishing their “new” hiring practices.

The Workplace Shift

The Covid-19 pandemic created workplace shifts in almost every sector. Some sectors saw larger shifts, such as entertainment and hospitality. Other sectors may only return when the pandemic is over. Businesses put into practice things to protect their employees. Many employees deemed essential are burnt out and are looking for new opportunities.

The Work Opportunity

Companies are working to rebuild their hiring practices. Remote, temporary or project-based work may be the new normal and also be more widely accepted by employees looking to reenter the workforce. Flexible work schedules benefit workers who take care of children and elderly parents. It is beneficial for employers to allow high performing employees a more flexible schedule.  With this shift many less-skilled workers may be at risk of being replaced with freelancers. Employees that are motivated to improve their skills, learn and be adaptable to change are an asset and be retained. Good talent is always in demand.

Working From Anywhere

Many companies realized that remote work and today’s technology have created opportunities underutilized. Many office employees working from home are more productive and are excelling in this new normal. With commute times eliminated, and office distractions around the watercooler, employees have more time for their families.

Hiring During The Pandemic

With remote work available, the talent pool is bigger than ever. To hire top talent, businesses need to adjust how they hire employees. Employers should look for employees that have the drive to learn and evolve. Once you find the right fit, it is imperative that you give them meaningful work they can be proud of.
